Nick Mahoney - Bass Guitar
Nick settled on his chosen instrument relatively late. Having sampled and then dropped a wide variety of brass and reed instruments, despite an excessive amount of encouragement, he decided he wasn’t destined to join his dad’s concert band after all. After a brief fling with the drums (the neighbours weren’t best pleased) he finally decided to take up the guitar at the age of 16 only to switch again to the bass which seemed a lot less complicated and better suited his more modest personality.
After only a year of dedicated practice (yeah right), his first band, ‘Fat Boy Hell of the Jungle’ won the Orpington College talent contest and despite being the only contestant managed to pull in a crowd of 200 plus people. Since then he has played in a variety of different musical incarnations the more notable including ‘US’, ‘Roam’, ‘Room1’, ‘Juice’ and ‘Gardenstate78’, Ok the last 2 are the same but we got bored of the name!
While in Mullit he enjoying the challenge of playing someone else’s music for a change, not to mention the free beer, learning to ski and the chance to finally make a living out of the thing he loved doing most – playing in a kick ass band – ROCK!
His wide ranging influences include Zeppelin, Muse, Ben Folds, The Stones, Jeff Buckley, the Chilli Peppers and acid skiffle, to name but a few, and while he generally enjoys listening to himself, he is always keen to experience new music.
